Chaplains Gathering 2019 ~ “Back to the Upper Room”And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place, when suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them. And they were all filled, diffused throughout their souls, with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression…Parthians and Medes and Elamites and inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and the transient residents from Rome, both Jews and the proselytes to Judaism from other religions, Cretans and Arabians too—we all hear them speaking in our own native tongues [and telling of] the mighty works of God! ~ Acts 2:1-11
This year is going to be a little different thus the reason for calling it a “Gathering” rather than a “Training”. Over the years it has been obvious that one of the greatest benefits of “Gathering” has been the opportunity to be face-to-face with others who share a similar passion for ministry and understand the unique aspects of Chaplaincy. January 11th and 12th, 2019 I would like to ask you to join us at Hendrick Motorsports as we spend an evening and a day gathered in God’s presence for the purpose of encouragement, edification, and equipping with the focus not so much on training, but on hearing and receiving from God, individually and corporately.
Like past events, the day (Saturday) will be scheduled with various facilitators sharing aspects of ministry that are relevant to chaplaincy. Those scheduled thus far have backgrounds in AMA, NASCAR, local track chaplaincy, the NFL, Women’s Ministry, Team Chaplaincy, Chaplaincy Training and Networking, Corporate Chaplaincy, and Chaplaincy to First Responders. Each facilitator will share key insights to ministry that they have experienced and learned over the years with time available for questions and feedback. Our hope is the event will be highly interactive from beginning to end.
This two day event will begin on Friday at 4:00pm with an optional behind the scenes tour of Hendrick Motorsports with HMS Team Chaplain Donnie Floyd. It will then officially kick-off at 6:30 pm with a time of worship, led by NFL Carolina Panthers Chaplain Clint Hudson and his wife Amber, and communion led by MRO NASCAR Chaplain Nick Terry. (For those who have attended previous MRO Chaplains Trainings you will recognize that this is different from previous years.) This years event will close on Saturday night with a “Feast” and a final time of worship.
In His final hours with His disciples, before His betrayal, Jesus spoke directly with them about all that was to come in the days ahead with considerable emphasis on the coming of the Holy Spirit and the role He would play in the world, their lives, and the lives of those who would believe on Him in the future. Then, on the day of Pentecost, it happened; all that Jesus had promised, and the world would never be the same. Both events took place in an “Upper Room” and periodically it is wonderful to return to where it all began, at least in heart, and be reminded of all that Jesus taught from the beginning.
Our hope and prayer is that this years “Gathering” of chaplains will be a time of refreshing that will carry you forward into 2019 and a new season of ministry, with a sense of His presence, and favor, like never before. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6
